25th Anniversary Celebration
On March 29, 2011, the WBDC held its 25th Anniversary Kickoff Reception at the Chicago Cultural Center, and unveiled its new 25th Anniversary logo.
This year we celebrate the amazing work of the WBDC team in assisting over 65,000 women attain economic independence through business ownership; the expansion of the WBDC to a nine-state Midwestern region; and the progress women have made politically, economically and in business success over the past 25 years. We also share our vision for the future and look forward to planning for the next 25 years.
The reception debuted the WBDC's HERstory display, a tribute to over 25 successful women business owners and longtime WBDC clients, as well as, memorable moments in the WBDC's history. Attendees enjoyed hors d'oeuvres by certified WBE caterer Limelight Catering and a dessert buffet provided by women-owned businesses Sarah's Pastries and Candies, Sugar Bliss Cake Boutique and Sweet Cheeks Cakes and Pastries. Other certified WBE contributors included Overture Premiums and Promotions, Desert Rose Design, Consolidated Printing and J&J Exhibitors Service.
The festivities included remarks from former Illinois governor James R. Thompson, the founding funder of the WBDC; Judith Roussel, Illinois district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration; Cristal Thomas, Illinois deputy governor; Kurt Summers, chief of staff to Cook County board president; John P. Daley, Cook County commissioner; Deborah Sawyer, founder and CEO of Environmental Design International representing the award winning WBE clients of the WBDC; Debra Jennings-Johnson, director of supplier diversity at BP America and WBDC board chair; and WBDC co-founders and co-presidents Hedy Ratner and Carol Dougal.
The WBDC is especially grateful to our 25th Anniversary Marquee Sponsors BP America, Harris and Keurig, and to our WBE Marquee Sponsors INTREN and Smead Manufacturing Co.
We hope you will join us at the 25th Anniversary Entrepreneurial Woman's Conference for our final anniversary celebration.
